How I Learned That All Old Canards Are Not So
Recently, while in Paris, I found myself quite hungry. I had spent the entire day walking around the Rive Gauche (which I thought was pretty nice and not gauche at all.) I could not take another step unless I ate. I have always been a fan of fowl so I looked for a good Chinese restaurant. Then I remembered I was in France, not China. Still, I was determined to find just the right meal. I came to a restaurant called La Monde. It looked like a clean, well lit place so I went in. I told the waiter that I was looking for something delicious and that I really liked fowl. He told me that I was in the right place because La Monde was well known for their duck. "Oh," I said. "Indeed," he said. In fact, La Monde was famous for their duck. Well, once he said that, what I could I do but order? I looked over the menu and settled on something called "Duck Ellington." This being Paris and all, the waiter was gone about a day and a half. When he finally came back, I was really starving. Even as the waiter set the duck down, I began to eat. For once, something a Frenchman said turned out to be true. The duck at La Monde was exquisite. Everywhere I went after that, I told people about the duck at La Monde. It turned out that everyone else had already heard of this superb dish. Yes, it was true, that the duck at La Monde was famous. So now I spread the word far and wide in case someone out there has not yet heard. The one thing in life you really want to experience is the Famous Ducks Of The World.
